Originally posted by Pigiron Better hurry. You have exactly one and a half seasons to catch the Yankees at the (semi) original Yankee Stadium. Construction of the new Yankee Stadium is very well underway, and baseball in NY will never be the same. The current stadium is really only 30 years old (the original was virtually torn down and rebuilt in 1974-75), but it still has that palpable sense of history to it. The new monstrosity is going to be a virtual carbon copy of Baltimore/Cincinnati/Pittsburgh/St. Louis/Philly, etc… It will be very fancy and beautiful with great food choices and comfortable seats and amazing sightlines…and it’s going to suck.
How many times has it been rebuilt already? I’ve already been to Wrigley Field, and Fenway’s another must see, but then, so was the Garden (actually, Madison Square and Boston Garden both, but this is relevant to the second only) until they tore that down. Just don’t stick the taxpayers with the bills to enrich George Steinbrenner. I used to be a Brewer fan until they yanked my vote out from under me. It’s the history of the TEAM that I’m trying to breathe in, but I will miss the house that Joe and Mick built.
