I agree, the Labrot and Graham Woodford Reserve tour is good, beautiful location out in Woodford County (Versailles). I’ve heard you don’t get to sample anything at Maker’s because it’s a dry county — true?
I’ve also done Buffalo Trace which is in an odd location in Frankfort, but its near the river, not too far from downtown, and the tour was great. If you can stand through a hilariously cheesy introduction video, their folks have lots of information, and you get a generous tasting session.
Lexington eats have been pretty well-documented on here: Ramsey’s, Belle’s Bakery, Billy’s BBQ. Billy’s is just okay, but I don’t get back home without eating at the other two. Also love Lynagh’s burgers, and Pazzo’s is a good, college-town atmosphere pizza place with a terrific beer selection and good beer specials.
Finally, if you’re in the mood for something ethnic, Lexington’s got some pretty solid options that fly under the radar. Koreana, near Woodhill Shopping Center (close to intersection of New Circle and Richmond Rd), is a damn fine place. Ditto, Seki, a sushi place on South Broadway/Harrodsburg not far from the Red Mile and UK’s campus. Actually, believe it or not, sushi is a surprisingly good bet in Lexington (Sugano also very good) because of a large Japanese population in the area. Both are very, very reasonable and very fresh.
Have fun, let us know where you stop.
