Mike,
There’s really not much in the way of Roadfood in Langhore proper (I live in the next town over). There’s one restaurant that I can mildly recommend — JB Dawson’s. It’s in the Flower’s Mill shopping center, which is just off of Route 1 on the corner of Maple (Rt 213) and S. Flower’s Mill Road. Dawson’s is a very small regional chain. It’s decidedly corporate but the food is better than most corporate’s and the service is very good. Their soups and salads are very good, as are the pastas. I’ve never had anything bad there but you won’t find yourself craving anything you had their after you’ve returned home.
If you’re willing to drive, of course, there are lot’s of good options. The two places that bookquarry mentions are both great — particularly Silvio’s. But they are a long drive. Try driving down into Northeast Philly. In fact, if you continue south on Route 1 just a few more miles, you will be in Northeast Philly. Route 1 turns into Roosevelt Blvd (stay in the center lanes). Make a left turn at Comly Road and pull into the parking lot just behind the gas station on the left. You will be at the Northeast branch of Steve’s Prince of Steaks — one of the best cheesesteak houses, IMHO, in all of Philly. That is no more than 15 minutes from Langhorne and well worth the trip! And no Center City traffic!
For Fat Pig, who will be travelling with children, take the Street Rd, East exit off of Route 1 (it’s just past the entrance to the Turnpike — the signs will say Philadelphia Park). Continue east on Street Road past Philadelphia Park (former home of none other than Smarty Jones) and make a left turn into a neon-lit place called Nifty Fifties. Nifty Fifties is the best kid-friendly Roadfood restaurant in the area. Complete with Arcade games, more crayons than Crayola, and mini-golf. The food? Terrific! Think McDonalds but homemade from scratch. Great burgers, even better fries and more flavors of soda than just about any other place on the east coast (this distinction got them on the Food Network a while back).
Hope you both enjoy your visits.
