I’m sorry to hear Mrs. Peters closed. We were going through KC on a trip back in 98, I think, and we wanted to hit one of these places, so we tried Strouds first and got met with a 2-hour wait, and then ended up at Mrs. Peters, something like 20 minutes before closing. We were just about the only folks in there, but it was great. The big mystery–we packed up the leftover chicken and put it directly in the cooler, and it went bad overnight–couldn’t get within 10 feet of it the next day. Yikes.

To me the difference between the shacks and the dinner-house places is that the dinner houses are going to put your chicken in the pan when you order it, so it might be a while–thus the need for a good atmosphere and starters. The shacks keep it cooked up.
