My last three jobs were obtained through recommendations of colleagues and without any interview being required. The "interview" for my latest job was the opposite of the "job interview from hell."
I was recommended for employment by a former co-worker. For the "interview" I met with the former coworker, his company president and our spouses for dinner at the Riversite in Mequon. The president made a pitch for me to join his company’s and we talked sports, food, travel and life. We also enjoyed several outstanding wines and excellent meals. An offer letter arrived within one week and I accepted the new position last Friday.
I have not successfully made it through the traditional interview process in over 15 years. I guess today’s HR hacks know who to hire better than the individuals with large equity stakes in their firms.
