I read the Chron (online) and I think Bauer is coasting big time this year. There are quite a few restaurants that appear year after year. Bauer has to eat at a joint three times to review it; it’s physically impossible for him to revisit all these places. His reviews are often about politics (who he’s friends with) as much or more than food. Plus he smokes. How can you take a food critic seriously if he has murdered his taste buds with tobacco? That said, there are some great restaurants on the list.
