Caffe Sport, while kinda fun, is nowhere near the top 100. Tired Italo-American fare at ridiculous prices.
In one of the (positive) reviews I saw of its current version (since the son took over, I guess), the reviewer compared it to Bucca de Beppo as a way of praising it. Bucca de Beppo is a CHAIN (though not a bad one) also offering what can certainly be described as you did–tired Italo-American fare.
Still, when I am craving that particular cuisine (tired . . .), and sometimes I do because it counts as comfort food, I shed a tear for the once great U.S. Restaurant which offered it at prices cheap enough for the retired Italo-American seniors of North Beach. Somehow I can’t bring myself to try their new location–can’t be the same, can it?
