I love Caffe Sport. The food is a level above most Italian restaurants I have experienced–and I like the place itself, even with its group table and waiters schtick. I have visited San Francisco regularly over the last 20 years, and Caffe Sport has been one of my favorite spots. In fact, I’m going to be in S.F. for a week this spring and Caffe Sport is one of the places I am most looking forward to visiting. I’ve eaten Italian food in good Italian restaurants and pizzerias in the U.S. and Italy–New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Rome, even India (I.talia in The Park Hotel in Bangalore). I used be a regular customer at Spiritos, a somewhat famouse neighborhood restaurant in Elizabeth N.J. It’s very similar to John’s in New York, the narrow neighborhood restaurant on second Ave. I believe Caffe Sport ranks high–I’d put it in the top 5 or 10 of my San Francisco restaurant list.
