It was a fine trip down and back in spite of two unfortunate events that put us out of sync for all your fine BBQ recommendations. The first was a monumental traffic jam that left us in Waldorf, MD the first night. Could find lots of fast food there and little else. The second was a series of torrential t-storms in South Carolina that again devastated my itinerary.
Made it to Ralph s in Roanoke Rapids, NC the second day for lunch. Great BBQ, as ever, and fantastic hush puppies. Picked up a six-pack of Blenheim ginger ale, later that day, at South of the Border. I purchased the hot. Wow! What an experience!! That will be a must on future trips.
Got to Don s in Pooler, GA the next day about two hrs. before they opened and had to settle for only fair BBQ in Woodbine, GA.
On the way back bought BBQ at Sonny s in Stark, FL. I know it s a chain but the food and service were excellent.
That evening, in St. George, SC. we decided to celebrate the Chinese New Year with Chinese take-out from very good kitchen that was a short walk from our motel. We sat enjoying the pu-pu and soup and watching Forrest Gump. ——————————- And that s all that I have to say about that.
