I remember them! We used to go to the one in downtown New Bedford. In fact, I don’t recall there even being a McDonald’s around us at all in those days. When I was very young, "going out to eat" invariably meant Howdy’s. I seem to even recall a radio add for them that used the "It’s Howdy Doody time" song.
I can remember reading their menu when I first learned how to read. Hamburgers, fries and sodas were 20 cents each. Other than cheeseburgers and maybe shakes, I don’t think the menu had anything more on it. Those were the days before "Happy meals" or chicken sandwiches or salads or anything else.
Oh, memories. I don’t remember this, but my father told me that when I came out of the anaesthesia after I had my tonsils out, I asked for a hamburger from Howdy’s.
What kind of china are you looking for? Didn’t these places only use paper wrappers? Or are you talking about some type of giveaways?
