I bought a cart last August in the Denver areaand have tried several locations with minimal success, eccept for youth football on the weekends, when I do quite well with my creative mobile 325 model. I tripled my sales of more expensive brats by cooking on a portable little charcoal grill that I brought along. I have done well setting up by the Invesco Field before Bronco games also, but these opportunities are obviously not full time.
I would like to try setting up in the downtown area of Denver, but the average hot dog sells for around a dollar and viennas for about two dollars. This doesnt give me near the mark-up i usually get. I wouldnt say those carts are top quality dogs and buns, but some of them have been there forever and must do well. Are established downtown areas usually saturated resulting in price wars? Would it be a good area to start on a daily basis? In Denver there is a $300 permit fee to set up on public streets, and I would hate to spend money unwisely.
Ok next, based on my good results at the youth football games, I plan on setting up at a softball park during the spring and summer on a nightly basis. Do you have any experience with anything like that?
