As a young adult, one of my favorite books was called "Fifteen", by Beverly Cleary. In this story, the heroine’s new boyfriend had a job delivering horse meat to homes as dog food. I believe it was post-World War II. He would just walk in the back door and put it in the refrigerator. It was a different world…..
