When the old Geo. Weigert company on Greenwood Street in Worcester, Mass closed in the 1970s, a young man was going to buy the building and convert it from doing cattle, sheep and pigs to horses. The outcry was so loud, that he never got to open. He already had another plant, and he had a contract to supply meat to France. I met him once in a bar. He seemed like a nice guy, rather than the male version of Cruella DeVille as depiced by his detracters. As I recall, the French sued him for non delivery and he went bankrupt. The old Weigert plant sat empty for a few years and was torn down. A bank now sits on the site.

Geo. Weigert Company made the best hot dogs that I have ever had.
