The Cuban restaurant you may be referring to is "Hard Grove Cafe". Recently remodeled and the price increases don’t seem to be justified. It is now essentially, a YUPPIE hangout. A more authentic spot (but terribly inconsistent) is La Conguita". Also on Grove but two blocks further north.
