It looks like Augusta is out too- they’re closed Monday and Tuesday so that won’t work so it looks like Goldie’s is the alternate for B & B
So far it looks like I’ll fly into Des Moines on Monday August 24 and head to Eastern and Northeastern Iowa through Wednesday morning. I’ll spend the next couple of days with Des Moines as my base and then friday morning spend the next few days in Western Iowa, the Omaha area and Southeastern South Dakota. I’ll head back toward Des Moines on Monday ,after lunch time and spend the rest of the trip there, until I leave Wednesday morning.
Because of one day specials, and the hours of various restaurants this itinerary is set in stone.
Here are my Iowa Chop Stops:
Sac County Cattle Co.
Old Rossville Store– Waukon IA
Gold Slipper– Dunlap IA
Bogie’s Steakhouse – Albia IA
Niland’s Cafe– Colo IA
Jessie’s Embers– Des Moines IA
I will also go to the Machine Shed– most likely the Davenport one for breakfast as they have a pork chop (not an Iowa Chop) on the breakfast menu.
I suspect a few of you (I won’t name names) will have a pre conceived notion that either the Machine Shed or Jessie’s Embers will have the best chop because they are both Roadfood reviewed, that is very likely.I really look forward to visiting Jessie’s Embers and I know how good the chop is at the Machine Shed however keep in mind how many times the Sterns have mentioned that recommendations that came in to them had completely missed their Roadfood radar and they never would have known about them unless someone had suggested it to them.
As much has I would love to try the Chops at Archie’s Waeside, unless I have a dining companion and the opportunity to share, that likely won’t happen.
