Actually, they did franchise. There isn’t any info on it on their website (I wish they would put some history on there, like a timeline). If you read the Syracuse Post Standard article in the Trip Report, Part 4, it lists a timeline for HEIDS and says that they did open shops locally in Carousel Center and on Erie Blvd. (but didn’t specify if they were franchises, although they sounded family owned) . However, they did franchise locations in Great Northern, Oneida (I had been to that one, not terribly impressed), Oswego, Manchester, NH and Cambridge, MA.
I LOVE Byrne Dairy. There are a number of them in Syracuse and still is one in Rome.
My brother-in-law had the pickle but I wasn’t in the mood to try it. Do you know where they get them from? I was always partial to the sweet "bread and butter" pickle growing up. It seemed they were more the norm in CNY.
