This type of cuisine isn’t mentioned much around here …
And with good reason.[;)]
And I say that not to be a jerk but simply to observe that Eastern Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine does not please the ‘typical’ American palate. In this it is almost unique in that most other cuisines – Asian, Continental, Latin American – are widely and wildly popular.
Insofar as I have sampled it as a guest I find a very off-putting (to me) “earthy” or “metallic” taste. The side dishes reek of overly fragrant spices like cardamom, clove, and rose water. And the desserts are so cloyingly sweet they ‘set my teeth on edge’.
As I am married to a ‘Middle Easterner”, I do not say this from prejudice; in fact, she doesn’t much like ‘her’ native cuisine either!
But, as the French say, “Chacun son gout“.
