I had an apple brat from whole foods. indeed, it was more like a sausage than a brat, but not so sweet to make it a breakfast sausage. It was good. I used a honey mustard (nance’s) on top and we liked it. But, we’ve only done it that one time. Knowing how the apple turns out in a sausage, I definately would not be interested in cherry, pineapple, blueberry or any other fruit…except sundried tomato – which is technically a dried fruit.
I think in that Fall, when doing a whole Fall harvest thing, you can get away with the apple brat. Like an apple brat washed down with a pumpkin ale. But otherwise, I wouldn’t select it over a regular brat. It’s all novelty, like the pumpkin ale, so in small rare doses it’s ok to get out the box.
