Have tried with little success to make them from scratch?? They were edible and tasted good but not the result I wanted.
If I buy frozen, my ONLY requirement is that they are TRULY RINGS and not those chopped up and formed things.
As for cooking them… hey, it’s NOT health food! If you go by directions on bag of frozen rings they will NOT be super crispy in the time they say. I don’t make them often, but when I do I FRY.
