For some time, I have been sort of in the market for a bolt action 5.56, like the Ruger or the Mossberg MVP. (I know that some folks would say to buy a 223 and be done with it, but I want a rifle where the manufacturing company says .223/5.56) I’d like a used one at a good price, and may never find it, but my reason goes back to Michael’s comment. I don’t want to be seen with, or known to own an AR-15, and be thought of as a gun nut who owns “too many” guns. I carry my guns to and from the shooting area in a discreet case and I know that I could never explain my reason to own an “assault rifle” (and like most of you who post on this thread, I hate that term) to the usual anti gun person.

The Ruger and the Mossberg look about the same as a .22 to a casual/unknowing observer.
