My favorite ritual is not candy-oriented, but it sort of applies here because I only do it once a year, at Halloween. We always buy a pumpkin for everyone in the family (so two big pumpkins and two "kid" pumpkins). I toast the pumpkin seeds, using my own recipe, and they are incredibly good. (the trick is to NOT wash the seeds)
Basically, I eat these until I’m pumpkin-seeded out, and then I do the whole over again the next Halloween.
As far as the candy goes, we definitely ration, but not on Halloween — that’s a "free" night. Happily, my kids like the crap candy, like gummy bears et al, so usually there’s plenty of chocolate for me.
