I really like Whole Foods Organic Peanut Butter, and my opinion was bolstered recently when The Star-Ledger printed a review (syndicated, I believe) of peanut butters and they concluded that Whole Foods was the absolute best.

Many of the commercial brands contain transfats, which should be avoided if at all possible. When Jif came on the market many years ago, people marveled at the creamy texture, which actually resulted from the blending of a small amount of Crisco into the peanut butter (Procter & Gamble made Crisco and Jif, so it was a marriage made in heaven for them).

Now that the Jif brand has been sold to Smucker’s it is possible that it has been reformulated, but I would advise anyone who is concerned about cholesterol to check the label of Jif and the other commercial brands to verify if they contain transfats.
