I was thinking along the same lines. 21 million pounds is about 86,400,000 burgers. There have been 29 confirmed cases of e-coli sickness. That works out to a confirmed contamination rate of 0.0000335% or that you had a one in 3 million chance of becoming sick. It just seems like an incredible amount of food to destroy based on such small percentages of illness. I cannot imagine it is possible that ANY food product has a safety ratio much better than 3 million to one!
(forgive me if my math is off…the point I was trying to make is that the odds of illness from this product were low…in my mind low enough to make such a massive recall questionable)
