I agree. How many of the illnesses were actually caused by the consumer? Meat left out to thaw, meat left out at a picnic, under cooked etc.

On the other hand, we will never know what happened behind the scene? Maybe the family or investors just wanted out and this was a good excuse? Possibly the conditions were so bad that the USDA offered a deal?
