You’ll certainly have no problem getting your food at Bobo’s, since there’s never anyone there, what with the new owners and the fire.
I would agree on Porubsky’s, though – I don’t know if it’s chili season yet, but you can always get a cold plate for a sandwich, a beer and killer horseradish pickles they make themselves.
Topeka also has really good, family-owner Mexican restaurants like Lupita’s, El Coyote, La Siesta (lunch Mon-Fri & dinner Fri & Sat), Quetzel & Pepe & Chela’s. There’s also Las Fuentes at White lakes Mall just north of the track, which is out of the St. Louis area and has good food.
Do not let anyone talk you into eating at Rosa’s – their food is just nasty since Mama sold it to sonny boy.
The barbeque in Topeka generally sucks – it’s worth the drive to Kansas City for that.
