on this-"Clean" thing—i worked in Park and rec for 17 years—in maintainence and janitorial–and let me tell ya—there is a lot of difference between the :dirt" picked up by kids playing in a creek–or ANY natual stting–ie beach sand etc—and the "dirt" they pick up in a "Playground" enviorment–trust me—the bacteria and such that will pick up in nature is nothing!!!–however- what they are exposed to in playgrounds is another ball game—indoor play grounds—along with drinking fountains and kids bathrooms–are second only to hospitals when it comes to harmful bacteria!!! Ive taken part in and read LOTS of stuff on playground safety and let me tell ya—the condition of and types of the equipment can make a difference—but MOST of the health risk is from the stuff that kids leave ON it when they congregate—ask any teacher—as a group–folks that work with kids get way more infections and colds then the normal population—so if you are REALLY concerned about thier haveing a good time as well as eating–you are better off getting the food—even if it is a Happy meal and GOING TO THE CREEK SIDE TO EAT IT and play there! I have seen the results of tests done in labs on fountaind and play equipment the we CLEANED and disenfecdted regularly and it amazes me that ANY of us survive! I am NOT one that belives that every thin and every one should be disinfected all thime–its probably not very safe and healthful—but the odds of a kid getting sick from a playground at a restaraunt are WAY higher then those at a woodland or beach setting—trust me–thiose lab results are SCARY!!
