Woah, now I’m torn if I still want to see Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia if most of the roads are like that. 

Bolivia is well worth a visit for many reasons.  “Most roads” one uses between cities in Bolivia are two lane and paved.  But the “Death Road” traverses the Andes in going from La Paz (12,000′ altitude, to a mountain pass @ 15,000′ down to the Jungas (about 1.000′) all in less than 50 miles.

 

The trip is harrowing in that, at times, you look straight down 3,000′, no guardrails, and numerous Crosses marking spots where vehicles have ‘plunged’.  It was the experience of a lifetime and once was more than enough!
