Thanks for the Pen Yan place, NJGuy. We’ll check it out next time we are up that way. We’ve been to McGregor and they have some very nice reds- especially their Bordeau type blends. Also been to Miles. Loved the old mansion and the ghost stories, and their great view of the Lake, but was not impressed with their wines.
What I should have mentioned in my story was the great improvement in just about everybody’s wines up there over the past twenty years. We did not have a single bad Riesling this year- in fact, the average Riesling now-a-days is at least as good as the very best that was made twenty years ago. One still needs to beware of some of the strange blends using native grapes that are offered at some wineries. But, what the Hell, some people like that kind of wine and I always believe that you should drink and enjoy whatever it is that you like – so those wineries are filling a need and making a buck doing it.
