Today’s visit was to Avventura’s Deli in Waterbury!
A coworker friend of mine grew up in Waterbury, and enthusiastically added their recommendation of Avventura’s to the one I received here. They specifically recommended a combination of fried artichoke, fried eggplant, fresh mozzarella, and pesto-mayo. I ordered it as a panino, but the portion size and bread used make it closer to a grinder, I think.
I’m a meateater, but I did not find myself missing it here! This was a wonderful combo of complex flavors, and the mozz and pesto-mayo were creamy without being too rich.
Some of their other items caught my eye, especially the stuffed peppers.
And, of course, dessert. I was pretty full after that massive sandwich so I just got one cannolo, for later. My friend advised me to look for something called “funny bones” (some kind of chocolate-wrapped peanut butter creme-filled cake I guess) but they didn’t have those today.
