To start one of my favorite places for Cantonese food is called Hong Min, it is located on Cermak in Chiatown. It is a total dive but looks can be decieving, I have yet to have had a bad meal there.

Is Lung Fung still there? It was also a dive, worn out plastic laminate diner tables, bright fluorescent lights, but the food was great. That’s where I mastered chop sticks, and learned to love hot and sour soup.

One place I know is gone was Charlie Lui’s, I think it was near Clark, North of Wrigley. They had the best egg rolls I ever had, made with spring roll wraps so they were thin and crispy, with lots of woodear, pork, and black pepper. My brother thinks he found the owners at another restaurant near Oak Park.

Sadly, I’m sure most of my fave’s are long gone.
