I don’t know about Poland, but many Poles, including me, love Ma Baensch’s herring on a saltine. Ma’s cannery is on Prospect Avenue, a little south of North Avenue in Milwaukee, WI. Don’t get the white sauce, at least I never do.
Seriously, When I was in the Marine Corps, a lot of us ODed on soba served off trucks. A small slice of beef, a lot of those little noodles, and beef broth was a great substiute meal. Sort of a Japanese hot dog as it was good, simple, portable, and cheap. I don’t know if they made anything else, though. I’ll be sure to check that out next time I watch the Cubs lose.
Yano, that’s one of the neat things about Chicago. You can get food from just about anywhere, sometimes with a distinctive Chicago flair, like Chicago Style Pizza, but it’s all good, even if it’s not all good to me.
