Char Rock broilers utilize lava rock or ceramic plates to radiate heat. Harder to clean obviously due to the rocks, plus the rock gives off carbon. Lower BTU ratings. Harder to control heat.

Radiant broilers utilize metal plates to radiate heat. Easier to clean. Higher BTU ratings due to stronger construction. Easier to control temperature.

Radiant is most likely going to cost a bit more due to construction.
