Check out their web site, http://www.angusbarn.com. The restaurant was started in 1960 by Thad Eure, Jr. (Thad, Sr. was North Carolina Secretary of State for 50 years, the longest serving elected state office holder in history) and quickly became the premier restaurant in the area. It is now run by Thad Jr.’s daughter, Van. It is 1 of my top 5 steakhouses in the U.S. (along with Peter Luger’s in Brooklyn, Johnny’s in Omaha, the Metroplitan in Seattle, and Cattlemen’s Cafe in Oklahoma City). It is acknowledged to have the best wine cellar in the Southeast.
I remember seeing somewhere that they serve 600 to 800 steaks nightly, and it is the power brokers’ favorite place to entertain all of the Raleigh politicos. Stop by sometime. We always go for their chateaubriand when we get back to Raleigh.
And Yes, it is the big red barn on the west side of highway 70 between Raleigh and Durham.
