as mentioned…there are a couple of threads but here are a few places – keep in mind that kingsport and johnson city are only about 10-15 minutes away from bristol depending on where you are staying.
burger bar – bristol va. piedmont st – I havent eaten here yet although I keep trying. I was on my way last saturday and didnt know they closed at 2:00 so I’ll have to give it another shot. this place must be the oldest restaurant in town and they get decent marks from the regulars. if you go about a half a block from here there is a local bagel shop and a couple of popular eateries on state st.
down the other end of state st is the greene’s fresh seafood. i’ve had seafood here in the past and it was very good. but the chef from the starving artist in abingdon (which closed) is now at greene’s and I havent had an opportunity to have dinner here since the change. i did have a sandwich that was very ordinary but i would give this place a dinner try in a second if you like seafood.
there are a few pretty good hamburger joints – tootie’s at 1310 Virginia Avenue. my son and I grabbed a burger and a slaw dog here a couple days ago. fresh and cheap. slaw dog needed some hotsauce but other then that can’t complain. big menu and the place has been in bristol for along time. good local neighborhood type place.
k.b. burgers in kingsport – this is a great little shack that has been serving burgers for years. food is always fresh and made on the spot. fries are good..onion rings are worth trying.
tomy thai in kingsport – imo, the best asian food in the area. there may be better but I havent found it in my time here.
chophouse steak house in kingsport – never a bad steak/meal.
cootie browns has a location in both kingsport and johnson city. nice menu..good prices.
there’s a small regional pizza chain called johnny bruscos with locations in kingsport (next to chophouse) and johnson city. very good pizza. great marinara http://www.johnnybruscos.com/
coming south on the bristol hwy towards johnson city there is a good deli with fresh soups, sandwiches, beer, and some other goodies. cant remember the name of the place but it is on a corner and the building is green. it will be on the right. if you get to the bristol motor speedway on your left you went a couple blocks to far.
also, here is a link to reviews by fred sauceman and folks….if you see something interesting ask and I’m sure somebody has been there if we havent. If you’re looking for a particular type of food not mentioned let me know and I’ll dig through whats remaining of my memory banks.
