Becky, I’ve had the maps out, but not knowing when you’ll leave Beckley and how far along you’ll be at breakfast time, I can’t offer much. If you can tell us where you think you’d be at the time you’d like to eat, that might help people offer more suggestions.
A lot of places for a fine or memorable breakfast are not particularly conveinent to the interstates. If a fast on-off is important, I think you can generally count on decent breakfast at Waffle Houses, which are just about everywhere in the South.
If you’re passing along Chapel Hill-Durham around breakfast time, there is the cafe in Wellspring Grocery and Caf� at Chapel Hill. I’ve had breakfast there many times and love the place. They serve wonderful breakfast food, including beautifully made southern style cheese grits. Notice the serving hours.

From I 40, take exit 270, turn right onto 15/501(also E. Franklin St.) and turn right at Elliott Road. Village Plaza is hidden from 15/501 by pine trees.
Hours: Store open daily from 8am to 9pm. Cafe open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am to 8pm. Breakfast available until 10:30am on weekdays, and weekend brunch until 2:30pm.
It will take you about 5 minutes from the exit to the front door.
