Wanted to bring up the "Matt’s" beer subject. Matt’s beer was a product of the West End Brewing Company in Utica New York, maker of Utica Club beer. Does anyone remember their talking mugs Shultz & Dooley who used to do their TV commercials? You get extra credit if you can sing the Utica Club song! Matt’s came out for awhile as an "upscale" choice over UC and was named after the brewery owner F.X. Matt II. They also came out with a beer around 1971-72 called Maximus Super. It was marketed sort of as the "Jolt Cola" of beers with at least twice the alcohol of regular beer. It tasted like coal tar, but would give you a hell of a buzz. The product was pulled pretty quickly because it got a lot of bad press as simply a way to gat blasted quickly, and at that time, the drinking age in NYS was only 18. It was often refered to as "Super Beer"
