I have two places that are world’s apart from each other in quality, but on the route you describe, more or less. I am assuming your Brewer’s game is at Miller Park and not Wrigley.
You said casual and this is not casual, but it is an uinbelievable experience: The best restaurant in Milwaukee (okay, that I’ve tried) is Mader’s, a fantastic German place with the most unbelievable buffet ‘breakfast’ I have ever seen. They have anything you can imagine, not just eggs, but salmon, pork, sausages, roast beef, just unbelievable. You get what you pay for, and it was $25 a person when we were there 7-8 years ago. I’m sure you’ll need to adjust for inflation.
If you don’t want to venture off of I-94 south of town is an apple orchard with a great restaurant called Apple Holler. A uch more reasonably priced buffet and very good county buffet breakfast. We went there last fall to pick apples and have breakfast. My sister and her friends have done so for years and this was our first year. We will definitely be back there again next year, and may just have to find a good excuse to go there from here in Glen Ellyn before hand. And yes it is very casual. In fact you might feel out of place without overalls.
I work near Logan Square around Milwaukee and Belmont. On Milwaukee south of Belmont is a GReat Polish buffet place: Czerwone Jabluszko (Red Apple) that is not a hopping place but has very good food. You’ll be in the minority as most of the patrons speak Polish, so home cooking it is.
So that gives you a few different options from the ordinary. Have a good visit! And go Cubs (though the Sox will likely slaughter them this weekend.) [:p]
