That should have been "green" weenie. Green was about the color of the hot dogs sold at Forbes Field in the 1950s. Apparently, the stadium caterer at that time bought about a three-year supply to get a cheap price, tossed them in a large freezing unit, then thawed them as needed. Later, Bob Prince, the Pirate announcer in that era, created a plastic "green weenie" that Pirate fans were supposed to shake at opposing ballplayers to place a hex upon them.
