After 24 years of looking, I have yet to find good pastrami on the west coast. That also goes for good Jewish corned beef (as opposed to the Irish version–I have sometimes found decent renditions of that, mostly in bars on St. Pat’s Day). Both are nearly always too lean (making them relatively tasteless).
If you’re referring to San Francisco, I agree. I once tried Moishe’s Pippic corned beef and it was a train wreck.
