For BT and any other Bay Area roadfooders:
Has anyone tried Saul’s, in Berkeley? On Shattuck Avenue, in the "Gourmet Ghetto," near Chez Panisse, etc. When I lived in Berkeley, and felt homesick for New York, this did the trick. I loved their pickles, and other sides. Granted, I am no pastrami or corned beef expert; when I go to a deli, I usually get the chopped liver, or the whitefish salad. Theirs was excellent. Friends from the east coast who ordered their pastrami and corned beef seemed pretty satisfied.
