Same here, Ann. Years later I did ask my Mom but she didn’t remember how she made it. I’m hoping to find her old Good Housekeeping cookbook (c. early 50s) some day and find some of her recipes. I have one from the 40s but it’s not the same.
At our house, mac & cheese was usually something to do when everyone was sick of leftover ham. Sharp cheddar, rotini pasta, crispy topping, and salty ham. I’ve tried and all I could taste was salt.
