Standard supermarkets here on Long Island as very very large- but their produce and meats are not that great. They still are a lot better than they used to be and have a wider variety of produce and ethnic foods than even just 10 years ago, when finding a lemongrass stalk was virtually impossible. I like to go to Fairway, which has a store on LI and two in Manhattan- they have prime aged meats, good regular meat, nice fish, very good produce (lots of organics) and an amazing cheese case. They have a lot of prepared foods, which I tend not to buy because Ilike to cook and don’t caret o pay that much more to have someone do to for me and not really any beter than I do (for most things- not all)
