Hello all:
Just a note to open up an old chain.
Laura and I visited my mom this weekend in Chatauqua County, NY. While we have been to Wegman’s in the past, maybe four years ago, we decided to go to Jamestown, NY to help my mom fill up her larder for the winter. First of all the Jamestown Wegmans is across the street from Johnny’s Lunch, a great Roadfood place. Hot Dogs with their original sauce, hamburgers and the best onion rings.
Then to Wegman’s. It might seen a bit hyperbolic to say that this is the best supermarket chain in the country but they make Trader Joe’s look like a Seven-Eleven.
They had everything from Hubbard Squash to sushi to subs to steaks to squid. All this on the shores of Lake Erie! I know that they are expanding. One has opened in Dulles, Virginia and one due soon in Hunt Valley, Maryland.
So we loaded up my mom with all kinds of goodies, made lasange, ham, stuff that would be good for her and keep well in the freezer. Then it was time to leave.
As we drove down 90 West there was a billboard for Wegman’s. Laura said,
"Could we just stop for a minute?"
An hour later we left the store with a weeks worth of groceries. For those who have never been to one, Wegman’s is a cross between Publix, Whole Foods, Meijer and your favorite deli and bakery.
We talked to the customer service lady at the Wegman’s in Erie and she told us that people come as far away as Cleveland and Pittsburg just to shop at their store.
I know that this sound like a commercial. But when you find something really extrodinary you just have to share it.
