Been to two on the list and have a problem with both.
While Winstead’s might arguably be the best Burger in the Kansas City Metro area (or at least the one with the most loyal and nostalgic following), and while there are several outposts in the state of Kansas, the company originated on the Missouri side. There are probably better Burgers somewhere in Missouri, possibly the one they included in St. Louis. But if that’s the case, they should have also looked harder throughout the rest of Kansas for a better representative than Winstead’s.
The other quibble is with Matt’s Bar and their version of the Jucy Lucy. No question the Twin Cities’ iconic Cheese-inside-the-Burger should be on this list, but Matt’s is surpassed by at least two other practitioners of the style. Both The 5-8 Club and Casper & Runyon’s Nook are putting out better renditions of the Jucy Lucy (called the Jucy Nookie at The Nook).
All in all though, an interesting list, avoiding, as JRPfeff put it, “the usual suspects”. One other quibble: the article doesn’t provide any links to the restaurants, or any contact information. I guess it’s easy enough to look that stuff up in the internet age, but it still seems kind of lazy.
