I remember one day in our cafe my wife forgot to put brown sugar in the BBQ sauce. I had 8 people come up and tell me how much they liked the BBQ special that day. I asked my wife and thats when she told me about leaving out some ingredients. I told her to keep up the good work on screwing up the recipes it’s good for business. It goes to show you people have a wide range of tastes for BBQ sauce. The one they liked and the people that it catered to was more vinegar based. I think if it’s to sweet it drowns out the other flavors.
HAHA! [8D] … I specifically stay away from sauces that are labeled sweet, hickory, or has dark coloring (this is from the overload of brown sugar). This would be about 90% of the brands on Wal Marts shelf I don’t like sweet at all or BBQ with cinnamon (heartburn).
I make my own, or buy Williams; or buy the cheapest yellowish BBQ sauce (Mrs. Griffins) on the shelf and add tomato sauce/paste, catsup, and more spices to it.
