I consider myself "self-made", although I’m not a very good sculptor. [:I]
I worked my way through college, but pretty much partied my way through. I gained enough credits to graduate, then immediately moved to Austin, TX. I sold shoes at Foot Locker and quit as an assistant manager after about a year and a half. Through a friend, I got a job testing software at a company in Austin, BPI, in November 1982, and I met my wife a month later.
Long story between there, but my dream had been to have a job where I could travel, and I started business travel around 1984. When I moved to another company in 1987, I started a career that took me all over the country for 14 years. There is little better in modern life than getting to set your own travel at company expense. [:)]
I was a traveling tech-support guy until June of 2001. Since then, I’ve been a tech-support guy who works from home. (Changed to a small start-up company then.) I own a small piece of the company.
Time will tell if I’m a financial "success", but I can still pay my bills, and I’m content.
