The shocker to me is our brand of coffee; it’s now about $11 per can. I remember when it was in the $4 range. [:0]
I check the larger supermarkets, and when it’s on sale, I will buy two or three cans to stockpile.
Another one that stands out to me is I remember buying bananas a few years ago for 29 cents a pound. Now they are consistently 59 cents a pound, which sticks in my craw for some reason.
Our spending has gone up at the grocery store, but I mostly attribute it to the fact that I’m trying to buy more grain fed meat, cage free chicken and eggs, etc.
I do scan the aisles for what’s on sale, and buy things then rather than on a whim.
The other irritant to me now is that there really is no $5 lunch anymore. Probably due to inflation. Now lunch is about $6.99, doesn’t include a drink, and with tax and tip you’re generally over $10.
