When we lived in New York State, we went to orchards and picked our own every year. My personal favorites were the 20 oz pippens (could fill a bushel basket quickly with those babies) and the Northern Spies which kept so well. Another apple that we purchased quite often were Cortlands which made the most wonderful white applesauce that you could ever wish for. We will pick apples here in Maryland this fall but the only apple that I care for at this orchard is the Macintosh.
I cannot understand how people can like the Red Delicious so much……….We think they have no real flavor.
