Reading these posts makes me sad. We spent two winters on Hilton Head in 1978 and 1979, plus we owned a lot back then and had planned to build. At that time there were lots of places that would have qualified as "roadfood places" and we enjoyed many delicious meals while there at these various places. In addition, I was able to buy fish and seafood which had swum in the sea the night before. That was wonderful.
There was a deli called The Purple Onion that we loved; Bill Ballard’s was a catfish place back in the woods; a delightful German restaurant (can’t recall the name); the Earl of Sandwich in the shopping center at Coligny Circle. Many, many places and back then, the winters were wonderful, not crowded and I felt as if the beach was my very own.
We decided not to build and sold the lot and went to Arizona instead. Quite a leap!
So glad we have these memories. I’m certain it has all changed by now. The last time we were there was in 1986 and it was quite different even then.
