Near the north end of A1A is Fernandina Beach, on Amelia Island, and downtown Fernandina has a number of very impressive places. Downtown is just a couple of miles north of the point where eastbound A1A turns south. We had planned on Espana (22 S 4th St) for tapas one day for lunch, but chose differently because the tapas were nearly as expensive and provided decidedly less quantity. Our meal was excellent – my wife had Sopa de Dia and House Salad and I had Cazuela de Mar. We had an earlier lunch at Brett’s Waterway Cafe at the west end of the main street (on the left) overlooking the water – excellent shrimp. We also had an excellent upscale dinner at The Beech Street Grill, 801 Beech St. My wife had Macadamia Grouper and I had Crab Stuffed Shrimp. We shared Bread Pudding for dessert. The meal, service, decor, was superb.
